New Design Envisioned for Gondola Transit Center/Meadows

October 3 Open House Provides Opportunity for Community Engagement
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 26, 2023-On Tuesday, October 3, Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation, the City of Steamboat Springs, and the Steamboat Springs Redevelopment Authority will share what future improvements to the Gondola Transit Center (GTC) and Meadows Lot could look like for the community.
A project open house will be held in the Community Room at Routt County’s new Health and Human Services Building (135 6th Street) at 6th and Oak Streets from 4PM to 6PM. This is the community’s opportunity to ask questions, view project plans and renderings and provide input to the project team.
Key stakeholders, who participated in initial planning sessions, will attend a separate follow-up stakeholder workshop, which will be from 12PM-2PM in the same location.
The three entities recently entered into a Public Improvements Agreement committing a combined $50M to reconstruct the Gondola Transit Center and Meadows Parking Lot, including the installation of a high-speed gondola in between. The project includes closing Mt Werner Circle at the GTC to all traffic except city buses, to improve transit function and pedestrian safety while creating an improved arrival experience at the ski area.
Meadows Lot improvements will include reconfigured circulation and parking with an island in the middle of the lot for the bottom terminal of the new 8-10 passenger high-speed gondola. The top terminal will land passengers at the GTC.
The GTC itself will only allow shuttles from a new consolidated shuttle program, which will be implemented as part of this process. Most other private skier drop-off will utilize an area near the new gondola in the Meadows Lot.
Project design is currently midway through the schematic design phase, which will bring designs to a 30% completion level at the end of October. Construction will take two years, with the earliest start in spring 2025.
