The Downhill Drive/US 40 Intersection Project being constructed by CDOT in partnership with the City of Steamboat Springs has been delayed until the 2025 construction season. Originally, the project was planned as a two phase construction project with Phase 1 (all work south of US 40) being constructed this year and Phase 2 (all work north of US 40) being constructed in 2025. The delay is due to an unforeseen back order in critical materials to complete Phase 1 of the Project.
The plan moving forward is to combine Phase 1 & Phase 2 for construction in the summer of 2025. Oldcastle SW Group Inc., the selected contractor, is confident the project will be able to be completed within the original overall project deadline of October 31, 2025.
A detailed schedule and the planned closure date of Downhill Drive will be announced when further updates become available.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 2023-The city will host a public open house on Wednesday, September 20, to review final plans for the proposed improvements to the Downhill Drive/US40 intersection.
The open house is an opportunity for those in surrounding neighborhoods or across the community with an interest in the project to meet with staff and design engineers to review the plans and ask questions. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 20, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Community Center (1605 Lincoln Avenue).
Plans are currently available on Engage Steamboat for review. Feedback can be provided in person during the open house or via the form on the Engage site. City and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) staff will be available to explain the design, answer questions and provide specifics on the plan.
Completed by Baseline Engineering, the planned intersection improvements include aligning Downhill Drive and Riverside Drive, installation of signals, planning for future 4-lanes on US40, and improving pedestrian, bicycle, and transit service to the intersection.
The city partnered with CDOT and will provide design and property acquisition, while CDOT will manage and fund most of the construction.
The city is in the process of final CDOT approvals and completion of land acquisition. The project is anticipated to go to bid in November 2023 with construction occurring during the summers of 2024 and 2025. Work will be completed in two phases with the Riverside portion of the project occurring in 2004 and the Downhill Drive portion in 2025.
